Cllr Mooney and fellow councillor Michelle McGinty were on hand to have their faces painted blue and also took time out to meet with a local support group for the condition.
The Vale of Leven Autism and Aspergers Forum (VOLAAF) is based in nearby Renton and is the only group of its kind in West Dunbartonshire.
Staff at council offices were encouraged to wear something blue and council reception areas had coloured lighting.
Libraries in the area also carried book displays of works relating to the condition.
Cllr Mooney, who is also depute convener of Educational Services, said: “I was delighted to visit this dedicated support group and show my support ahead of World Autism Day.
“Only by raising awareness will be get a better understanding of the challenges and stress of raising a child with Autism brings on a family.
“From personal experience, I understand these challenges. Being a long-time campaigner for children and adults with autism, I am in favour of any support we can offer local families.”
