But this week (Tuesday) Kilbowie Primary pupil Hannah Hughes and her mum were given exclusive access to one of the world’s most famous landmarks after the youngster’s exceptional drawing skills scooped the top prize in a national competition.

The talented 11-year-old was also given the chance to meet Samantha Cameron during her trip down south after beating off competition from hundreds of other competitors to dazzle competition judges with her drawing which promotes healthy eating.

In addition to her once in a lifetime opportunity Hannah’s winning entry also ensured her school will receive funding towards the transformation of its outdoor space into a new playground, sports area or vegetable garden courtesy of Disney.

Last week Anne Marie Cameron, Hannah’s art teacher, told the Post everyone at the school was over the moon she had won.

She said: “It’s such a great opportunity and something she’ll remember forever, I’m delighted for her.

“It was a competition sent into the school about anti-obesity and what you had to do was design a healthy lunch box and you had to encourage children to take more exercise and eat more healthy.

“A lot of the prizes were put up by Disney so we discussed what Disney would find appealing and a lot of the children talked about cartoons and graphics which were child friendly then went on to do things from that. Hannah did very well, all we did was brainstorm what we could illustrate and she took it from there.” Lynn Wells, head teacher at Kilbowie Primary School, added: Everyone is extremely proud of Hannah’s effort and work.

“She sends out a clear, positive message to other youngsters and families about the importance of a healthy, balanced packed lunch. Learning through health and wellbeing promotes confidence, independent thinking and creates positive attitudes.” The competition Hannah won was launched last October as part of the preparations for National Obesity Awareness Week 2014 with the aim of promoting healthy living to tackle obesity.

As a result children and young people across the country were asked to create a picture of a healthy meal or packed lunch with Hannah securing the top spot in her age category with her unique drawing.

An excited Hannah told the Post: “I drew a little cartoon apple, a cartoon bottle of water, a cartoon carrot, a cartoon yoghurt and a cartoon sandwich and they were saying things like if you eat me then something good will happen.

“I just love art. I draw cartoons and sometimes I do paintings of landscapes and things like that.”
