£28k copper raid
ORGANISED criminals have stolen £28,000 worth of copper from a business in a "well planned" raid.
Around three tonnes of the metal was stolen in the heist which took place within Beardmore Industrial Estate in Dalmuir just after 6pm on December 30.
As the company involved beefs up its security with guidance from the police, the detective involved in the case has warned metal thefts are now no longer being carried out by chancing "opportunistic" thieves.
Detective Constable Peter Jarvis spoke to the Post about the raid and appealed for businesses in the park to check their CCTV footage for any images which may help the case.
He said: "This incident tends to show it's not just opportunistic.
"The values involved now would indicate there's a likelihood it was organised criminals becoming involved in organising thefts or facilitating thefts.
"This wasn't an opportunistic crime, it was well planned and well executed.
"We are appealing to people who were perhaps closing up their business at the estate for new year who may have only recently returned to work.
"If they have any CCTV images of a van or flatbed truck with large quantities of metal leaving the estate at around the time of the theft could they please get in touch."
Police can be contacted on 0141 532 3300.
