Police station build to begin in spring

PLANS to create a new purpose built police station are moving forward.
Building of the 13,000 square metre Drumchapel police station could begin as early as March.
The station, which will be erected at Hecla Square near to the shopping centre, will provide a replacement to the current Kinfauns Drive station.
The facility will provide a much-needed modern working base for officers, some of whom are currently working in portable huts.
Planning permission is expected to be granted soon while six possible contractors are being assessed.
The chosen developer is expected to be given the nod to start building after a Strathclyde Police Authority board meeting on February 23.
There are no plans to build cells within the station, which will hopefully open in the spring of 2013.
Chief Inspector Drew Innes is pleased the project is finally coming to fruition.
He said: "I'm absolutely delighted to report the progress for the new build is firmly on track and we are looking forward to Drumchapel receiving a new police office."
