An engineer who was instrumental in the industrial revolution could get a Clydebank street named in his honour.

William Murdoch lived between 1754 and 1839 and made key improvements to the steam engine and is credited with inventing gas lighting.

If the plan is passed, the road that will be named after him is in the Clydebank Business Park and is currently the unnamed service road at the westermost end of North Avenue.

The road needs a name because a new Labelgraphics warehouse and production unit is due to be built there.

In a report going before West Dunbartonshire's Planning Committee on January 10, officers have recommended the road be called Murdoch Drive.
