Tesco will address traffic concerns
Concerns about increased congestion around the new Tesco planned for Clydebank will be looked at by the supermarket giant.
Tesco is planning to build a new store on the site of the Play Drome which will be accessed from Argyll Road, and open days were held last week for residents to come along and talk about the plans.
Tam Brady, Joe Henry and Joe Brady from Whitecrook were three of those who went along and although in general they were pleased with plans for the store, they feel that more should be done to ease congestion on Argyll Road.
With Clydebank Shopping Centre and Asda already accessed from Argyll Road, and with congestion already a problem there most days, they are worried that even more traffic will make the issue a lot worse.
Joe Henry, who is chairman of the Clydebank East Community Council said: "I asked 'has there been anything done to the existing road system to try and alleviate the congestion that's already there.'
"What came out was that they didn't think the Tesco would make a big impact on the traffic.
"They haven't taken into account the traffic congestion that's going to be there."
Tam Brady added: "We're not against the Tesco. Everyone is pleased this is coming to Clydebank but we are worried about the impact on traffic."
And Joe felt that if there was access on to Kilbowie Road, then customers would not have to travel up Argyll Road to get into the new store.
However, despite the residents' concerns that Tesco was not taking the problem seriously, a spokeswoman for the store confirmed that traffic impact was something it would be looking at.
A spokeswoman from the supermarket giant told the Post said: "Our public consultation exhibition last week allowed us to address questions from local residents and discuss the benefits that our proposals will bring to the Clydebank community.
"As part of our planning application we will be undertaking detailed studies in conjunction with West Dunbartonshire Council of the proposed junction form and parking/servicing provision to ensure that our plans will improve upon pedestrian links and allow for easy access for both vehicles and pedestrians."
