ST ANDREW’S High was set alight for a third time on Tuesday night, despite promises the vacant building would be demolished two months ago.

The entire top floor was ablaze when fire engines arrived at 9.20pm and flames quickly consumed the floor below.

It took more than three hours to put out the blaze.

Andrew Minshall, 28, of Clydebank, witnessed the incident.

He said: “I was driving home and as I passed the school there was so much smoke that I had to stop.

“I looked to see what was going on and there were police and firemenalready there, as well as people just watching the fire.

“The flames were really high and aggressive.”

West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) said it would to demolish the building in June, immediately after it was set alight by firestarters twice in the space of four days, and was condemned by Building Standards officers, as previously reported in the Post.

A spokeswoman for WDC said a report is currently being prepared about the extent of the damage.

Owen McGuigan, of Whitecrook, captured the blaze on his video camera.
