Calls have been made to clamp down on trail bikes being driven illegally after a jogger was knocked down.

The woman was hit on the footpath on the A82 near to Auchentoshan Distillery and was taken to hospital.

It is believed the rider apologised but then drove off following the incident.

It happened around 6.40pm on Tuesday April 26, and police and ambulance rushed to the scene.

The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution and she is not believed to be seriously injured.

One man, whose two sons are keen trail bikers, wants to see an official site set up in Clydebank as he believes this would cut down on illegal riding.

He said: "If there was an official club and bikes had to be registered, then if guys were caught on bikes where they shouldn't be they would be kicked out of the club."

There were hopes that a site on Cochno Hill could be turned into an official track, but in recent weeks signs have been put up saying trail bikes are not permitted, which has frustrated responsible riders further.

Land owner the Forestry Commission said: "We are engaging with the local motorcycling club to try and find a solution which helps everyone find a way forward."
