Hartson's coming to Clydebank
A football legend has promised a 'no-holds barred' evening for fans in Clydebank next month.
There will be tears and laughter as former Celtic star John Hartson takes centre stage in the town for an evening of banter and entertainment.
And John revealed that he will answer absolutely anything put to him by the audience when he appears at The Hub on June 3.
He said: "I'm delighted to be able to give something back to the supporters and I'm really looking forward to meeting them in Clydebank.
"They can ask me anything they want about my career, my fight with cancer, my lovelife - it really is no-holds barred."
'Big John', as he's known to his fans, played with top English clubs including Arsenal and West Ham as well as representing his beloved Wales in the national team.
But it was during his stint with Celtic for five years that he found his way into the hearts of Scottish football fans.
John said: "I love Scotland and its people.
"My wife's Scottish and even though we live in Wales she still has a flat in Glasgow. It's my second home.
"Celtic was the most successful time of my career and I hold very fond memories of my time there. That's why I was so keen to be involved in this event - to give something back to the fans.
"And I'm not talking about the armchair fans - this is about the real supporters."
John will also use the event to talk about his well-documented battle with testicular cancer which spread to his brain in 2009 and almost cost him his life.
He said: "It was a horrendous experience but my family never gave up on me. It was never a case of 'if' I'd get better, it was always 'when' I get better'."
The evening, organised by the Clydebank Post, will be hosted by Iain King, chief sports writer with the Scottish Sun, who has a longstanding friendship with John.
Iain said: "John's fight for life two years ago affected all of us who are his friends so deeply but it also gripped so many fans.
"Since he came through those darkest days there has been so much for him to reflect on.
"We hit on this idea of having a few beers after we'd climbed Ben Nevis for the John Hartson Foundation and just felt it would be a great way for John to tell his story to those who gave him so much support when we nearly lost him.
"They'll be some tears I'd reckon but a lot of laughs and football memories too. We are so grateful to the Clydebank Post for supporting this and I think the punters will love it."
The event takes place on Friday June 3 at the Hub Community Education Centre, 405 Kilbowie Road, Clydebank, from 6pm-11pm. Tickets are £10. Under 18s are permitted but must be accompanied by an adult.
