Meating global demand
EX-PATS as far away as Kuala Lumpur and Azerbaijan are having their burgers and square sausages shipped over from Clydebank.
Joe McLaughlin at the Top of the Hill butchers in Radnor Park has been inundated with requests for the traditional Scottish fare from homesick workers.
To meet demand, and to keep the food fresh, he has been vacuum packing it.
The technique has opened up a whole new market to him, and he's delighted to be able to put Clydebank on the meat map.
Joe said: "One chap from Kuala Lumpur came in on a Monday and put in a massive order.
"I just thought he was having a big barbecue at the weekend.
"Then when he came back in he said he was going to catch a flight.
"I asked him what was happening with the barbecue and he said he was taking it with him and he was having a barbecue on the Sunday in Kuala Lumpur.
"Because of the vacuum machine we can vacuum things up and they stay fresh for days and days.
"The guy in Azerbaijan says you really need to take stuff with you because the food out there is horrendous.
"He comes in and gets square slice, links and burgers."
