Cockroach infestation
A popular Clydebank cafe was closed for almost a week after it became infested with cockroaches.
The cafe within the In Shops at Clydebank Shopping Centre is thought to have become infested with the insects due to the hotter weather setting in.
Environmental health were called in to deal with the problem and they served statutory notices on the cafe involved, in the interests of public health.
One alarmed shopper contacted the Post to say they were concerned to learn about the infestation as a number of traders within the In Shops sell food.
He said: "I feel the public should know about this because we are buying food from there.
"I have been to West Dunbartonshire Council Environmental Health Department expressing my concerns."
He also said he believed the infestation to have affected several shops, but In Shops denied this saying it was only the cafe that was affected and only the cafe that was closed.
On Monday, the operations manager for In Shops said that they had been given a clean bill of health and the cafe would be re-opening.
He said: "There was an infestation but environmental health officers from West Dunbartonshire Council have been back and given us a clean bill of health.
"The cafe did stay closed for a while until they established if the infestation had been dealt with."
