BANKIE band Wet Wet Wet has announced today (Monday) they are to perform a one-off 25th anniversary concert this summer.

The concert by the band will take place on Friday July 20 at Glasgow Green, making it the Wets' first show in nearly five years.

During the announcement at Glasgow City Chambers today, Wet Wet Wet performed 'Temptation' from their first album as well as two number ones in the shape of 'Goodnight Girl', and the record breaking 'Love Is All Around'.

It will be an emotional return for the band (Graeme Clark, Tommy Cunningham, Neil Mitchell, and Marti Pellow) who hosted a huge concert at Glasgow Green in 1989, an event still held in reverence throughout the country.

Exactly twenty five years ago this week in 1987, the debut single from Wet Wet Wet 'Wishing I Was Lucky' was working its way up the UK charts.

It would be the first of 27 massive hits throughout their phenomenal career during which they have sold in excess of 15 million records and featured in the UK official singles and albums charts for an immense 508 cumulative weeks.

Marti Pellow said: "I love singing with Wet Wet Wet. To get to play all those classic pop songs in my hometown will make it a special day for the fans and us."

Tommy Cunningham added: "It was a major honour and career highlight when we took to the stage at Glasgow Green some 20 years ago.

"We feel humbled and even more honoured to have that opportunity again."

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Wednesday (March 28). Demand is expected to be high for the outdoor concert, organised by event promoters CK Events in association with The Glasgow Show.

Tickets are available from www.ticketline.co.uk or by calling 0844 888 9991 from 9am on Wednesday 28 March 2012.
