A DRUMRY man who tried to steal a car has avoided a jail sentence.

Stuart Davis, 40, repeatedly lifted the door handles of a car in Dumbarton’s High Street, on November 22, 2017.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last Friday that Davis attempted to force open the locked car with the intention of stealing the vehicle.

He committed the offence while on bail on two occasions from Glasgow Sheriff Court on November 8, 2017.

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry put Davis on a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO) for two years.

He told Davis, of Onslow Road: “A DTTO is a marathon not a sprint. It is not an easy option.”
