A MUCH-LOVED staff member of a Clydebank primary received a special send-off after 33 years of service to the school.

St Eunan’s Primary clerical assistant Evelyn Allan, from Duntocher, was described as a “one in a million employee”.

Helen Lodhi, the depute head teacher at the school, has worked alongside Evelyn for 24 years and described her as a “fabulous, kind and caring person”.

Helen told the Post: “She has been much more than just a clerical assistant.

“She carried out different day to day dealings with the children, like if they were not well or fell and hurt themselves in the playground. She also dealt with parents, welcoming and engaging with them.

“She has seen so many children come and go and has a long-standing relationship within the school community and will be sorely missed by all.”

Evelyn also created displays for around the school and produced costumes and props for school shows.

Helen added: “The things she produces are just breath taking.

“She has contributed so much over the years including her own time.”

A special and surprise assembly was organised last Thursday that included gifts, a montage of messages and a sketch performed by the children.

The sketch involved a primary seven pupil playing the part of Evelyn as she sat at the sewing machine getting costumes ready for the school show while being interrupted by a constant stream of pupils and staff asking for help, from photo copying to dealing with skint knees to the head teacher asking her to make a display for Education Scotland arriving the following day.

And all the costumes wore were made by Evelyn over the years.

Evelyn said: “The day of the assembly I was overwhelmed by the kind words and generosity of all staff, children, nursery and parents.

“Then there was the concert, which was the icing on the cake. The children were amazing, and it will be a day I will always remember.

“I have worked with fantastic colleagues past and present and wonderful children. I will miss the funny little stories the children would tell you and how they were so pleased to show you their work and drawings.

“I am leaving with great sadness and wonderful memories. St Eunan’s will always have a special place in my heart.”

Family members of Evelyn’s were present on the day as well as former employees.
