A LANDLORD has been hauled in front of licensing chiefs after neighbours complained about the noise made by students wearing high heels.

But Omar Ali, who owns 39 flats in the area, was granted five new houses in multiple occupation (HMO) licences despite complaints from residents in McAslin Court.

The first was in October 2015 when neighbours reported that there was excessive noise being created when visitors were invited back to a second floor flat.

And just last week, HMO officers received an official complaint regarding female tenants returning to the property in the early hours in high heeled shoes.

Alicia Devine, the secretary of Townhead and Ladywell Community Council, said: “There has been a lot of noise and anti-social behaviour which has caused great distress to the people who live on the ground floor.”

But Craig Knowles, representing Mr Ali, said: “Omar has proven himself to be a fit and proper landlord. He’s very hands-on.

“He’s good with his tenants and his neighbours.

“He has 39 multiple occupancies in Townhead in 24 different buildings.

“All the flats were all found to be satisfactory by the council’s HMO unit.”
