NEW boundaries for Clydebank and Old Kilpatrick conservation areas have been proposed.

The Scottish Civic Trust carried out appraisals of four existing West Dunbartonshire conservation areas and recommended expanding what’s protected.

In High Dalmuir, 48 Duntocher Road will be added together with mature trees and the garden boundary.

In the Lusset Road area of Old Kilpatrick, the rail station will be added and be an “opportunity for future restoration”, according to a report to the council’s planning committee this week.

Some contemporary homes on Station Road, Dumbarton Road and Thistleneuk will also be added there as well as the B-listed former Secession Church.

There were no changes proposed to the Mount Pleasant Drive conservation area in Old Kilpatrick.

Community council members of Dalmuir and Mountblow wanted the boundary extended to Methven Street and Maxwell Street. There was also concerns about the risks posed by trees outside Holmfield.

In Old Kilpatrick, there were discussions about the new borders and concerns about a lack of maintenance and restoration for original lamp standards.

Changes to conservation areas have to be approved by Scottish ministers if the planning committee gives the go ahead at its meeting at the council offices in Dumbarton on Wednesday.
