A BABY massage class providing precious time for parents and their tots to relax has proved to be a huge hit with families.

3D Drumchapel, a charity organisation aimed at building strong foundations, has been holding the free classes for more than 10 years.

The 90-minute sessions allow parents to participate in infant massage, learn about child development and build relationships with other new parents in the community.

Sharon Colvin, 3D Drumchapel project manager, said: “It is a real privilege that we have been able to offer baby massage classes for so many years and we are lucky to have Marion Lindsay, who is a really skilled practitioner.

“It is an integral part of our service delivery to families in the local area and it really does offer so many benefits to both the baby and the parent. It also provides opportunities for parents to develop new friendships and it sets up involvement in further 3D services.”

The classes improve the parent-child bond and provide additional health benefits.

Marion, a senior children and family worker and certified infant massage instructor, said: “Baby massage is beneficial to both the parents and the baby in so many ways.

“It’s relaxing for both, encourages a deeper sleep for baby, helps to relieve wind, colic and constipation and strengthens baby-parent communication. It also helps to reduce isolation for parents.”

Tea, coffee and relaxed conversations after the class can be enjoyed.

Sam, one of the mums from the class, added: “This is a nice relaxing bonding time for us and we are seeing the babies benefiting when we do the massage at home.”
