FOR Clydebank’s acclaimed hospital, celebrating a gala truly is golden.

The Golden Jubilee Foundation marked 10 years of its heart and lung unit and 70 years of the NHS at their recent gala party.

Though the skies were grey, they didn’t detract from colourful faces, dancers and smiles.

Nearly 3,000 staff, supporters and members of the community were on hand for the event, opened with a parade led by West Dunbartonshire's Provost William Hendrie.

Master of ceremonies was "The Greatest Showman" as families took in more than 40 stalls, games, bouncy castles, ponies and fairground rides.

There was a climbing wall, a sports day full of activities to encourage healthy living and even a Jog Scotland fun run led by mascot dog Jog Scotty.

Jill Young, chief executive of the Golden Jubilee Foundation, said: “It was an extremely family and community-based day. The fact that the rain managed to stay away made it even better.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the organisation of our gala day, as they helped make it such a memorable success.”

Bronagh Bell, director of Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel and part of the organising committee, added: “Organising an event on this scale is a mammoth task with so much attention to detail required and I personally know the effort, energy and enthusiasm that our team put into it.

"It was wonderful to see so many happy faces."

Gala day organisers said they would like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the raffle, tombola or the gold star prize draw, those who attended and the many volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the smooth running of the event.
