THERE have been no comments from school parents about cuts to funding earlier this year, a senior official has said.

The education maintenance allowance - worth £10 per pupil - has been cut back by £82,000 this year and at the education services committee last week, Councillor Martin Rooney asked if there had been any feedback from parents.

Laura Mason, chief education officer replied: “They have not said if they are happy or unhappy.”

Council leader Jonathan McColl said to Cllr Rooney: “I’m sure you will stir something up.”

The funding, now a £5 top up, goes through parent councils to support extra projects in schools.

Committee convener Karen Conaghan added the feedback she had heard was “they are happy with what they have”.
