YOUNG people with “the spirit of adventure” are being encouraged to joins the ranks of Clydebank RAF Air Cadets.

A recruitment event will be taking place at the Beardmore Street base on Tuesday, September 4, from 7pm to 9.30pm.

There will be information about the organisation, a tour of the building, opportunities to talk to members and staff, as well as interactive sessions on a flight simulator.

Reiss Cameron, Clydebank cadet’s warrant officer, said: “All the opportunities we offer to young people are beneficial in helping them in their future but, most importantly, the memories, camaraderie and friendships that will be gained will last a lifetime.”

Members of the cadets, who meet every Tuesday and Thursday night, take part in a wide range of activities including flying, clay target shooting, camps, sports events and trips to RAF and MoD bases.

First aid with the St John Ambulance service, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and gaining BTEC qualifications in aviation studies are just some of the opportunities available to young members.

Many activities are open to squadrons across the West Scotland wing or to the whole organisation, allowing cadets to socialise with other squadrons.

Mr Cameron added: “We aim to encourage young people to better themselves and strive to be the best they can be.

“One of three aims of the Air Cadets is ‘to encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship’ and, as a core aim, we always keep it at the heart of every activity we organise.

“This is not only beneficial to the cadets – these values are reflected in the local community and beyond.

“We regularly help assist at local charity events and attend the annual Remembrance Day parade at the town hall to show our presence in the local community.”

The recruitment night will focus on those aged between 13 and 17, however anyone aged over 20 and interested in joining as staff is also welcome.
