CLYDEBANK’S newest sports centre is moving closer to completion with the promise of more opportunities to get active.

The Clydebank Community Sports Hub (CCSH) in Whitecrook announced on Twitter they had just seven weeks left to finishing their site, which will be home to Clydebank Rugby Club, Glasgow Gaels GFC and GTF Taekwon-Do.

Special art was installed recently on a corner of the new indoor facilities, designed by school pupils.

Work on the hub started in February and when finished there will be a new full-size, flood-lit, all-weather synthetic pitch, two re-developed grass pitches and 10 community allotments.

Clydebank Rugby Club started playing in Whitecrook in September 1969 and changing facilities were built in 1974.

The club is hoping to expand interest in the sport with their refurbished home.

Robert Williamson, president of the the rugby club, told the Post everything was on target.

He said: “It’s more exciting now that we can physically see it coming together. We can use it for a multitude of sports and hopefully it will really take off.”

John White, chairman of Clydebank East Community Council, said he was looking forward to the difference the hub could make to Whitecrook.

He said: “The CCSH is going to be a good contribution to the area. When that’s finished, it’s just going to add to the community in a big, big capacity.

“Let’s go forward and thrive.”

The £3.8million sports hub in Dean Street is backed by the Scottish Government, West Dunbartonshire Council, sportscotland, the Gaelic Athletic Association, Cashback for Communities, Scottish Rugby, The Robertson Trust and Barr Environmental Ltd through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.
