A DRUMRY man has pleaded guilty to a drunken attack on police officers in the town.

Stephen Cairns, 47, was in Kilbowie Road around 12.30am on December 30 last year when cops saw him.

They were heading to another incident and when they approached, he attempted to headbutt one officer, then attempted to strike another with his head, and resisted arrest, struggling violently with police.

He pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last Wednesday to two assaults and resisting arrest.

Cairns, of Onslow Road, was “very drunk”, said defence solicitor Gail Campbell.

She added: “Alcohol is not an excuse. But he was extremely drunk. These are serious charges and I would not seek to minimise them towards the court.”

Sheriff William Gallacher told Cairns: “Whatever the situation, you cannot behave like this.”

Sentence was deferred until January 2019 for Cairns to be of good behaviour.
