West Dunbartonshire is the best area in Scotland for broadband speeds, according to a new study.

The latest figures show the region ranks first in Scotland for average download speeds at 72.90 Mbps.

The constituency is also one of the top performing areas in the UK as a whole, ranking at fourth place, well above the national average of 46.2 Mbps.

The research, conducted in more than 6,000 towns and villages across the UK, was published by Centre for Towns, a project analysing the viability and prosperity of the UK’s towns.

West Dunbartonshire MP Martin Docherty-Hughes hailed the findings.

He said: “Having access to fast broadband is more important than ever to residents and businesses, which is why I have been campaigning for improved internet connectivity in West Dunbartonshire.

“This is a very welcome study showing West Dunbartonshire as one of the best performing areas for broadband not just in Scotland but across the UK.”

The Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme’s success means 98.7 per cent of West Dunbartonshire premises now have access to a superfast connection.
