POLICE are issuing another reminder to Clydebank residents to lock their vehicles.

Officers said they were taking the pre-emptive measure with more vehicle crime in the area caused by people not locking their cars while leaving valuables lying out.

Clydebank police said Bankies should always double check they’ve locked their car and for newer cars, ensure they take the key fobs with them so self-locking is automatic.

If you have a car alarm, make sure it’s set. Don’t leave valuables and always keep car keys out of sight in a safe place at home and doors and windows locked.

Chief Inspector Scott Carlin, West Dunbartonshire area commander, said: “Enquiries are ongoing into two recent incidents but we are also encouraging car owners to take a few extra seconds to ensure their car is secure and that all property such as sat-navs and phones are not on display.

“By following these simple steps residents can reduce the chance of them becoming a victim of thieves.”

Recent thefts and attempted thefts in West Dunbartonshire prompted the reminder that most vehicle crime is opportunistic. Officers said simple precautions can make a difference.
