A WHITECROOK man has been spared a jail term after he admitted being involved in dealing cannabis.

Calum Campbell, 40, of Brown Avenue, Whitecrook, was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of the class B drug at his home on November 17 last year.

Prosecutor Iain Meacock told Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday: “Police sought a search warrant for a drugs search at the home address of Campbell.

“They found a quantity of green herbal material along with self seal bags and other items associated with being concerned in the supply of drugs. When tested, the material proved to be cannabis.

“The value of the drugs found had a street value of £1,720.”

His lawyer said: “He is in full-time employment and he understands the court will be contemplating custody. He has no previous convictions and nothing else outstanding.

"I would suggest there is an alternative to custody. He is fit and able to do a community payback order. Because of lack of previous offending the door is ajar.”

Sheriff Moira Mackenzie said: “The court has decided an alternative to custody is available and will impose a community payback order.

“To reflect how close you came to custody I would normally have ordered you to do the maximum of 300 hours of unpaid work, but because of your early plea I will reduce this to 275 hours to be performed within 12 months.”
