A PET lover whose heart went out to two stray dogs she befriended while on holiday in Turkey has launched a fundraising campaign to bring them to Scotland.

Danielle Livingstone was in tears when she discovered the two dogs living in dreadful conditions under a car in the resort of Fethiye in the Dalaman area. The animals had no food or water and were in 30 degree heat.

Danielle, from Drumchapel, told the Post she and partner Craig were returning from a market when they found the dogs outside a five-star hotel.

She said: “I started pouring water for them from a bottle I had and they were drinking it before it hit the ground.

“Craig was warning me, saying ‘be careful, these are stray dogs’ but I had to help them.

“In the hotel they told me they would run the risk of being hit by a car and die as that’s what sometimes happens to strays – there are thousands of them in Turkey.

“I was heartbroken and crying for the rest of the day and I knew I just had to bring them back to Drumchapel and look after them.

“These are the most compassionate, genuine dogs I’ve come across and have such a desire to be loved.”

Now Danielle, who already has two chihuahuas, Bentley and Belle, is appealing for cash donations to pay for vets’ bills and transportation so the two strays can have a new life.

The 23-year-old, who works in Caledonian Camper Conventions in Clydebank, has launched a Go Fund Me page to raise £3,000. On Monday, the total stood at £469.

The dogs – which she has named Percy and Beau – have already been vet checked and de-flead and are living in kennels with the support of the charity Animal Friends of Turkey.

Speaking from Turkey, June Campbell, from the charity, told the Post: “We are delighted to be assisting Danielle in her efforts to bring Percy and Beau to wonderful homes in Scotland with her family.

“We will help Danielle in any way we can, and we would like to thank her for contacting us and also for being so wonderful and caring towards these two sweet dogs.”

Danielle’s proud mum Carol Ferguson told the Post: “I cannot put into words how proud I am of my daughter for doing this.

“I hope she has touched the hearts of many I just think this is such a beautiful thing to do.”

Danielle says it will probably be Christmas before the dogs can be brought to the UK.

She said: “I am begging everyone to please, please, please donate what you can.

“Percy and Beau deserve a new life here.”

Danielle is also planning a fundraising night on October 26 in the Goodyear Social Club.
