THE eyes of the world might be on the football in Russia but anybody can enjoy a day of sport – as residents and staff of Hill View Care Home found out recently.

The Dalmuir facility held their second sports day and found it so successful they’ve vowed to make it an annual event, mixing physical and mental activities to ensure nobody was left out.

About 30 residents took part along with staff from each of the five houses: Tower (representing Germany), Uladh (Turkey), Inanda (Greece), Ravenswood (Spain) and Dalmuir (France). The administrators took on the role as Italy.

Activities coordinator Amanda Smith told the Post: “The day was fantastic. It’s a bit of fun and team participation.”

Staff took part in challenges such as three-legged and sack races while residents tried target games such as bean bag toss. Those who couldn’t do physical activities took part in a quiz. There were also postcards for the various countries hidden in a scavenger hunt throughout Hill View.

There was plenty of support from family and other residents on the sidelines as they watched the six teams compete, with staff dressed up for the occasion. Tower House were the winners on the day.

Amanda added: “We did it so everyone could take part. Age is not a barrier to enjoying sport. We are going to make it an annual thing.”
