A WALKING programme across West Dunbartonshire has reached a landmark target of 500 volunteer-led walks in less than four years.

Health Walks West Dunbartonshire now wants to encourage even more people to talk part and to lead.

Project coordinator Daren Borzynski said: “Reaching 500 hundred walks in less than 4 years has only been made possible by the efforts of the volunteer walk leaders and the walkers that return every week to participate."

He added that Health Walks are free and open to anyone that wants to take their first step towards a more active and healthier lifestyle.

The group held a Big Fit Walk in Dumbarton's Levengrove Park last week with the support of the volunteers, West Dunbartonshire Council Greenspace, Dumbarton Riverside Parish Church, West Dunbartonshire Athletics Club - WDAC, Clyde Shopmobility, Paths for All and Friends of Levengrove.

Health Walks start with 15 minutes for new walkers and can last for up to an hour, all with a mix of physical activity, social contact and support in the community.

There are currently walks in Alexandria, Dumbarton, Clydebank, and Old Kilpatrick, with walks down to Bowling.
