CONCERNS about parking at a Clydebank primary school have prompted weeks of police attention, heard a community meeting.

Parents dropping off children in front of Kilbowie Primary has seen problems on West Thomson Street as officers speak to drivers – sometimes when they’re stopping on zigzags right in front of cops.

Parkhall, North Kilbowie and Central Community Council heard last week that there have been problems with parking at the school.

Speaking after the meeting, Inspector Allan Dickson, from the community policing team in Clydebank, said: “The local police are aware of the issues surrounding parking and vehicle access at Kilbowie Primary.

“We have had constructive dialogue with the school, the parent teachers council and West Dunbartonshire Council and are willing to provide whatever assistance is necessary.

“Lately, you may have noticed two of the local beat officers in and around the school during the busy periods. This will continue and we would urge parents and other road users to consider where they park their vehicles and as to whether they require their vehicle in and around the school at all.

“We would also like to remind people that this is a safety issue and that selfish or inconsiderate parking can cause a genuine danger to young children making their way to school.

“Please be aware there are parking restrictions around the school and that they will be enforced.”

A spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council added: “The council welcomes any police initiative to improve road safety around our schools. We would remind all motorists to take care when driving or parking near schools.

“Our schools regularly remind parents and carers not to park in zones outside school gates and to exercise patience, care and common sense when dropping off and picking up their children.”
