WHITECROOK Primary School has delivered a win in the 2018 West Dunbartonshire Spring Maths Contest, organised by education technology company Sumdog.

Five pupils from the winning Primary 7 class at Whitecrook Primary placed among the top ten individual scorers for the region.

Commencing on March 16, the week-long contest saw 1,131 pupils from 57 classes at 17 schools in West Dunbartonshire compete for a coveted trophy.

The pupils worked individually in their class groups to answer up to 1000 maths questions each over the duration of the contest using Sumdog’s online learning system.

The questions were customised to each pupil’s level of ability based on an initial assessment. Nearly 269,000 maths questions were answered during the week-long contest.

P7 at Whitecrook Primary emerged as champions with a winning average class score of 680 correct answers out of 1000.

Presenting the pupils with their winning trophy on June 14, Laura Mason, chief education officer at West Dunbartonshire Council, said: “I would like to congratulate our pupils from Whitecrook Primary for their outstanding win.

“This is testament not only to the hard work by our pupils but also our dedicated teaching staff.

“I fully support any initiative that increases pupils’ attainment and learning and this competition was a fun way to promote the importance of maths in an exciting and engaging way for our pupils.”

Sumdog CEO Andrew Hall said: “We’re delighted to have had so many schools from across West Dunbartonshire compete in the contest.

“On behalf of everyone at Sumdog, I’d like to express my huge congratulations to all Primary 7 pupils at Whitecrook Primary on becoming the West Dunbartonshire Spring Maths Contest champions.”
