A MAN barred from Clydebank’s Asda lashed out at security guards and told one he looked like a “poofy hairdresser”.

Warren Dick, of Dumbarton Road, Clydebank, previously pleaded guilty to assaulting one guard by kicking him in the leg and to the homophobic remarks to the other staff member. The 52-year-old shouted and swore at both and challenged one of them to fight.

Around 5.30pm on May 8, check-out staff at Asda alerted security to Dick’s presence and the two guards approached him at the exit, telling him, “you’re not meant to be in here”.

Dick then started shouting at one man saying, “You’re a f****** a***hole”.

He left, but then returned and ran towards one of the security staff, kicking him on the left leg, heard Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

The guard instinctively grabbed hold of the accused and they escorted him to the security office.

Dick continued to shout and told the employee: “Specky b******, take the glasses off – I want to square go you.”

He then said to the other guard, “You look like a poofy hairdresser” and persistently asked if he was gay.

Police were called and the incident had been caught on CCTV.

Defence solicitor Scott Adair said Dick had no recollection of events but he had been binge drinking for a period of time. He had been barred from Asda.

He said his client had asked when he first appeared in court, “What am I here for?”

Dick felt “shame” and “upset at what he had done”. This was his first appearance before the courts. He has not had a drink since.

Mr Adair said his client insisted he was fit to do unpaid work as punishment, despite having asthma.

Sheriff Simon Pender expressed concern whether Dick was saying he was fit, but would then claim he was unable to work.

He said: “We see that all too often these days – it seems to be becoming a method.”

The sheriff ordered the offender be under social work supervision for 12 months, including any alcohol counselling they advise. He must also do 160 hours of unpaid work within eight months.
