A MAN who tried to walk out of Asda in Clydebank with a TV has been jailed for the theft.
James McGlashan, of Crown Avenue, pleaded guilty last week to attempting to leave the store on June 5 with the £149 television, setting off the security alarm at the exit. The incident was caught on CCTV.
Sheriff John Hamilton pointed out 36-year-old McGlashan had a serious conviction in September 2017 under misuse of drugs legislation. The man’s defence solicitor said his client didn’t appear to be on drugs at the moment.
The sheriff asked: “What was he thinking when he did that?”
“Goodness knows,” replied the lawyer.
McGlashan was on licence from prison for the previous conviction and will be returned there until November.
Sheriff Hamilton told him: “Your record goes against you and the circumstances certainly go against you.”
He jailed him for six months from June 6.
