DEVELOPERS have submitted a plan for 89 new homes on the site of the former Braidfield High in Drumry.

The 3.1 hectare site off Queen Mary Avenue has been earmarked for redevelopment for a decade since the school was closed in 2006 to become the new Clydebank High.

Miller Homes has submitted a bid for a mix of nine different styles of terrace, semi and detached family homes.

Planners have recommended councillors approve the new properties at the June 27 planning committee meeting.

The design would include an open space play area backing on to the end of Melfort Gardens and the back of Kilbowie Cemetery.

Miller Homes states in their planning submission they met with West Dunbartonshire Council’s new design panel to get their feedback.

About 35 people, including Linnvale and Drumry Community Council, attended a public exhibition on the plans in January to give feedback on the design and layout.

Concerns were raised about road traffic and the location of the play area near existing homes.

One neighbour has objected so far on a number of points to do with the proximity to his property.

Council leader Jonathan McColl told the Post: “This land has been earmarked for development for a long time now and I welcome the interest from a developer in site.

“As with all of our development sites, it’s not about regeneration at any cost and many complex issues, including the needs of existing residents and the surrounding road network, will have to be carefully considered.

“We have excellent planning, roads and environmental officers who will assess the application and provide councillors on the planning committee with all the information they need to make an informed decision.”
