A TEAM of media students from West College Scotland’s Clydebank campus took on universities and colleges from all over Scotland to win a place on a new BBC mentoring scheme.
Bethany Andrews, Stefana Margarint and Phoebe McBride pitched their short film script last week to an industry panel at the Creative Media Network student festival at Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.
Helliate Rushwaye, event project manager and festival producer, said: “The festival is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn from the industry leaders who know how important student development is to the future of broadcasting.”
The story and the students’ belief in their project impressed the judges and the team is now looking forward to production at BBC River City Studios in June.
Bethany, who wrote the script, said: “Irradiate is a post-apocalyptic love story between two people who can’t meet so only send letters to each other.”
Stefana added: “I can’t wait to work with the BBC. It’s huge.”
Julie Laing, curriculum enhancement leader, said: “I’m very proud of our team. They had a great idea and we can’t wait to see their film. Winning this level of mentoring is a fantastic achievement.”
