A YOKER drug dealer caught with £1,000 worth of amphetamine has avoided jail.

Charles McGinlay, 30, was caught with the drugs after police executed a search warrant at his home address in Halley Place.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court this week, the 30-year-old admitted having the class B drug in his possession with intent to supply on December 21, 2016. His pleas of not guilty to having diamorphine and cannabis in his possession were accepted by the Crown.

McGinlay's defence solicitor said his client was already on a community payback order (CPO) for another matter but that was scheduled to finish in July.

The defence agent told the court McGinlay suffered from serious mental health issues, but was now cooperating with his court order following a breach.

Sheriff Diana McConnell told the accused: "This is a very serious offence, you know that."

However, the sheriff accepted there was an alternative to a custodial sentence. McGinlay was handed a fresh CPO with supervision for 12 months.
