CHILDREN at Pikeman Nursery pulled on their wellies for a worthy cause last Tuesday.

The Knightswood pre-school organised a "Welly Waddle" in aid of the Scottish Cot Death Trust on May 1, with dozens children taking part in the fundraiser on nursery grounds.

The waddle is a fun sponsored walk, where children put on their wellies whether the sun is shining or if the rain is pouring down.

Nursery staff decided to pledge their support to the trust following an awareness raising training course.

Lindsay Drummond, of Pikeman Nursery, said: “After our awareness raising session about cot death, and how many families it affects, we decided as a staff team that we would like to show our support for such a worthy cause.

“It was also a great opportunity to get the kids out in their wellies.”

Founded in 1985, the Scottish Cot Death Trust aims to raise funds for research into the cause of cot death, educate the public and health care professionals on the issue and improve support for bereaved families.

Lynne Mackenzie, fundraiser at the Scottish Cot Death Trust, said: “We provide free education sessions to early years providers, as well as other health professionals, and new and expectant parents.

“While it is impossible for us to quantify the number of lives which have and can be saved through our education, ensuring we are able to continue to deliver our ‘Safe Sleep’ messages is vitally important.

“We are delighted that Pikeman Nursery School have been inspired to raise money so the Scottish Cot Death Trust can continue to keep children throughout Scotland safe.

“We would encourage anyone with a connection to an early years provider to consider supporting our work, and the welly waddle is a fantastic and fun way to do that.”
