A CLYDEBANK man has been put on a community payback order for 18 months, after admitting assaulting a five-year-old boy.
Sean McCartney, 27, of Ellinger Court, pleaded guilty last week at Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
McCartney carried out the attack on the boy on March 26, this year, in a house in Clydebank.
The court heard how he seized the boy by the neck and compressed it, causing injury to the youngster.
Lawyer Tom Brown said: “This was a serious matter. He has not been in trouble before.
“There are various options open to the court. Clearly he does not want to go to jail.”
Sheriff William Gallacher said: “I was horrified and remain concerned about the circumstances.”
McCartney was put on the CPO as a direct alternative to custody and ordered to return to court on June 29 for a review in front of Sheriff Gallacher.
