YOUNG people who have been in care in Clydebank are being encouraged to take up new council tax exemptions.

Starting this month, those between the ages of 18 and 26, who have previously been in the care of West Dunbartonshire Council (WDC) from age 16, are exempt from council tax.

The exemption would apply until their 26th birthday.

Ross Greer MSP said whether a person lives alone or with others who have been through care, they pay no council tax at all.

Even if they live with someone else, that person might qualify for a discount.

He added: "It’s important you don’t miss out, as this could save you hundreds of pounds a year.

"Make sure you check WDC’s website and find out how to apply, or with Who Cares? Scotland who have been pushing councils to promote how you can arrange this exemption."
