The top notch Dance School of Scotland at Knightswood Secondary have announced their next big shows.

Senior musical theatre pupils will bring the popular Legally Blonde musical, based on the film of the same name, to the Citizens Theatre on June 13 to 16.

The show follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in search of her dreams.

And on June 15 and 16 at the Theatre Royal, they’ll showcase their mix of dance styles at their annual show.

The theme of this year’s show will be “The Cosmos” with ideas drawn from astronomy, and organisers promised it would be an “out of this world” performance.

Councillor Chris Cunningham, city convener for education, skills and early years and councillor for Garscadden/Scotstounhill, said: “This is one of the best shows in town and not to be missed.

“The calibre of the students from the Dance School of Scotland and musical theatre course at Knightswood Secondary school is amazing and it is no wonder they all go on to tread the boards of theatres and dance and performing arts schools around the world.”

Legally Blonde, with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, followed the novel by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film. The musical opened on Broadway in April 2007 and in the West End in 2010, with Sheridan Smith as the lead, Duncan James, Peter Davison and Jill Halfpenny.

Songs include “Omigod You Guys”, “Chip On My Shoulder”, “Delta Nu Nu Nu”, and “Whipped into Shape”. UK tours of the show have included Matthew Kelly, Les Dennis, Niki Evans, Jennifer Ellison and Gareth Gates in the cast.

The high calibre Knightswood productions have won rave reviews themselves and multiple students of the school go on to UK and international fame.

The school is Scotland’s only fully funded centre for vocational dance and musical theatre.
