Books open a world of adventure - as Whitecrook Primary found out last week.
The school was one of many to reschedule its World Book Day festivities after being delayed because of snow.
Pupils from P5/6 organised all the activities to promote reading for pleasure.
This included a Where's Wally throughout the week, a book swap and a reading area in the gym hall with each class getting a slot to enjoy the plush surroundings youngsters created.
On Friday, our photographer caught youngsters as they were given the chance to dress as their favourite literary characters, or pyjamas or just non-uniform clothing.
Class teacher Meghan Baird told the Post the current reading favourites for pupils are the Tom Gates series of books by British author and illustrator Liz Pichon.
Ms Baird said: "It was a brilliant day and the kids really enjoyed it. We have quite a few enthusiastic readers."
The UK version of World Book Day was first held 20 years ago.
