AN elderly woman has been robbed of her purse containing precious family photos in Knightswood.

The 90-year-old was within the Marie Curie charity shop on Anniesland Road around 12pm on Wednesday when the thief struck.

Her family have now launched an appeal to get the purse back as it contained pictures belonging to the woman’s late-husband and around £70 to pay bills.

Investigations so far have revealed that she left the local Tesco supermarket with her purse inside her personal trolley, report our sister paper, the Evening Times.

The Knightswood local then entered the Marie Curie shop between midday and 1pm where she was about to buy and item before realising her purse was gone.

The pensioner, who has just recovered from a nasty fall, has been left shaken up by the whole experience.

Her granddaughter, Julia, said: “It just makes you wonder about the humanity of people doing this to an old woman.

“After her fall she never left the house for two weeks and isn't very confident going out own her own, and now this has happened, it’s horrible.

“We’re not bothered about the money, we just want to get the pictures back. They belonged to my Grandad before he died and are really special to my Nana.

“We’ve been into the local shops in the hope it might have been handed in but there’s no sign so far.”

Thieves have recently been targeting elderly women in the shops on Byres Road and Dumbarton Road.

On each occasion, the victims had their handbags opened before their purses were taken.

Police Scotland have given local charity shops in the area purse bells to hand out to customers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
