A GROUP offering tea, cake and company to the elderly is appealing for more people to open up their homes.

The Clydebank Contact the Elderly group launched three years ago and currently has guests and volunteers from Clydebank, Old Kilpatrick, Duntochter, Glasgow, Helensburgh, Erskine and Milngavie.

Older people are collected by a volunteer driver and taken to a volunteer host’s home on the third Sunday afternoon of each month.
The host provides an afternoon tea and a bit of a blether.

One Clydebank guest said the parties were “like heaven” and revealed there is always a lot of conversation and joking around.

Alison Williamson, the group’s volunteer coordinator, said the group is keen to see more people get involved with the work.

She said: “I love being part of the Contact the Elderly group. We all enjoy our get-togethers and have such a wonderful time.

“A lot of older people in this area live alone and are isolated and Contact the Elderly gives them a lovely lifeline of friendship.

“We would love to welcome additional guests to our parties.”
