A JEALOUS man who launched a violent attack on his ex lover’s male colleague and threatened to kill him has narrowly avoided jail.

Alan Hadden “lost control” after he followed his ex almost 20 miles, from Lanarkshire to Dumbarton Road when he saw her in the passenger seat.

When her male colleague parked his car, Hadden leaned through the passenger door and threatened “I’m going to f****** kill you” and punched him.

The victim managed to get out of the car and ran across the road, in the direction of Clydebank and was pursued by Hadden and his friend.

The pair attacked him, he was punched and kicked on the head and body before they drove off again.

Hadden’s ex ran to a nearby shop and the police were contacted.

Her colleague was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was found to have a cut at his right eye which needed eight stitches and has left a scar, and a small cut to his head which needed three stitches.

Hadden, 39, from Motherwell, pleaded guilty in January at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the man to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement on June 29 of last year.

His relationship with his former girlfriend ended at the end of 2015, although there had been contact since then.

Today, Sheriff Daniel Scullion handed him community payback and compensation orders but said: “You require to fully understand it’s a direct alternative to custody.”

Hadden will be supervised in the community for 18 months and must carry out 250 hours of unpaid work within a year, as well as pay his victim £1,500.

Defence lawyer Vincent McGovern said Hadden had no closure from his ex after she ended their relationship.

He said: “That’s why he did what he did that day in terms of pursuing her. He wasn’t thinking straight.”
