A CLYDEBANK woman has begged friends not to let her die abroad after she contracted E.coli while battling cancer in Turkey.

Caroline Hope said she felt herself “slipping away” as crash team doctors battled to bring her back from the brink of death just last week.

The family of the 37-year-old, who lives in Turkey and works as a teacher, has pleaded with kindhearted Bankies to help raise the £29,000 needed to return the former Clydebank High pupil home for treatment.

DRUMCHAPEL Foodbank has been saved by the generosity of the community – but they urged everyone to keep the support coming.

Donations and further pledges poured in after the Post highlighted the shelves of the bank, emptied in just the first week of the summer holidays by an unexpected rise in benefit sanctions and marital breakdowns or bereavements on top of children being out of school.

Liz Atkinson, manager of the foodbank, said: “We’ve had a great response. There was a huge number of Facebook enquiries and donations last week.”

A BANKIE football player has begun his recovery from emergency surgery to salvage his career after being left in the lurch by a dispute with his insurance firm.

Daniel Mackinnon injured his knee on July 10 while on holiday in Spain and an MRI scan last week confirmed a ruptured ligament, slight fractures to his femur and tibia and cartilage damage.
