A DUMBARTON primary school will not reopen until January 8 after a pipe burst earlier this week.

St Patrick's Primary closed on Monday after a fault with the central heating system left it too cold for pupils to be indoors.

Engineers working to solve the issue determined it was caused by a burst water pipe which lay beneath a concrete floor.

However, West Dunbartonshire Council took to social media to alert parents the school would remain closed for the rest of the week, with pupils now not due to return until January following the festive holidays.

In an online statement today (Wednesday) a spokesman said: "St Patrick’s Primary School in Dumbarton will unfortunately remain closed for the rest of the week as engineers continue repair work on a burst central heating water pipe.

"The issue is further complicated by the fact that a concrete floor has had to be lifted to allow access to the pipe, meaning it will not be possible to complete the repair in time for the school to open again on Thursday for what was due to be the last day before the Christmas holidays.

"It is hoped that the repair will be completed by the end of this week and it is planned for the school to open as normal on Monday, January 8 after the Christmas holidays.

"We apologise once again for this inconvenience."
