PUPILS from seven Vale of Leven primary schools went head to head to be crowned basketball champions.

A festival at the Vale of Leven Academy hosted multiple schools - including Christie Park, Gartocharn, Lennox, Levenvale, Renton, St Martin's and St Mary's Primary Schools - on Tuesday, December 5.

As part of the West Dunbartonshire School Games (WDSG), the primary five youngsters battled it out alongside their Active Schools coaches to win the coveted spot in next year's area-wide final.

Victory arrived for Levenvale Primary, with Lennox Primary a close second and now both will head to Clydebank next month to take on the top two teams from the town and Dumbarton.

The winner will be declared West Dunbartonshire P5 Basketball Champions 2017/18.

Yvonne MacDonald, an Active Schools co-ordinator, told the Reporter: "The sportsmanship and standard of play was fantastic and it was a fantastic morning of sport.

"Active Schools would like to give a big thanks to the P.E staff of Vale of Leven Academy for their hospitality and for setting up and allowing us to use their facilities for this event."

This festival was just one of dozens of WDSG events Active Schools and Sports Development promise to deliver across the whole of area for primary and secondary schools to participate in during 2017-18.

Pupils will get the chance to take part in a wide range of sports including cross-country, dodgeball, tennis and swimming, both competitively and non-competitively and gain WDSG points for their schools, which will help the school win an overall award for its sporting ability at the end of the academic year.
