A MAN who aimed a volley of drunken abuse at police while claiming to be an Olympic taekwondo champion has been hauled back into the dock for breaching a court order.

Mark Leathem was placed under social work supervision, and ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work, earlier this year after admitting behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Clydebank police station.

But the 24-year-old was back in court on Friday to answer for a breach of his community payback order.

Leathem’s solicitor told the court his client admitted the breach, which was committed when he failed to turn up to a pre-arranged appointment with a social worker.

The solicitor, Mr Reid, told Dumbarton Sheriff Court: “He agreed an appointment but hadn’t taken note of that and did not attend.

“He has made good progress on the unpaid work element. Perhaps more unpaid hours could be imposed as a punishment for the breach.”

A previous court hearing was told Leathem had aimed a drink-fuelled tirade of abuse at officers after a taxi driver took him to the town’s police station on March 8, suspecting that he had no money for the journey from Alexander Street to his home in Glasgow’s Old Rutherglen Road.

Re-imposing the original order, Sheriff John Hamilton told Leathem: “Supervision, to a certain extent, is more important for you.

“It’s time for you to grow up. If this case does come back before me for a further breach you’ll have a lot of explaining to do.”
