THE Active Schools P3 rugby festival took place this week at Clydebank Leisure Centre as part of the West Dunbartonshire School Games competition.

It was a fun participation festival and all schools who took part were awarded points towards the West Dunbartonshire School Games League tables that all schools across the county take part in.

In the lead up to the festival P3 pupils were offered the opportunity to take part in a touch rugby after-school club at their respective schools.

Active Schools works in partnership with the West College Scotland sports coaching department, and it was their HNC students who delivered the extra-curricular clubs as part of their work placement and also helped deliver the activity sessions at the festival.

The festival itself proved to be an outstanding success and was hailed as a fantastic event with more than 150 enthusiastic children taking part.

The schools who took part in the morning session were: Gavinburn Primary School, Clydemuir PS, Our Lady of Loretto PS, St Stephen’s PS, Kibowie PS, St Eunan’s PS and Linnvale PS.

The afternoon session featured: St Joseph’s PS, Edinbarnet PS, Carleith PS, St Mary’s PS, Goldenhill PS and Whitecrook PS.

Active Schools co-ordinator Louise Morrison said: “All the schools who took part received 10 points towards the league table, there were no winners or positions. The children are encouraged to take part so we don’t make it competitive.”

The attention will now turn to the P5 basketball festival, which will also take place at Clydebank Leisure Centre on Thursday, December 7, again with points counting towards the West Dunbartonshire School Games League table.

This time they will receive higher points for their finishing positions.
