A YOUNGSTER from Lochgoilhead has her sights set on stardom after impressing judges at her first pageant.

Five-year-old Ava McNaught came away with head held high after competing in the Junior Miss Scotland pageant for the Petite Miss Scotland title in Glasgow.

Among her successes on the day, she won the prizes for the second runner-up, the best interview, Miss Elegance and best evening wear.

And she demonstrated some nifty footwork by dancing to Walking on Sunshine too.

As reported in the Advertiser last month, Ava is taking part to raise awareness and funds for the event’s affiliated charity, the United Together Foundation, which provides a range of services that help prevent bullying, racism and discrimination.

The Lochgoilhead Primary pupil is also raising funds and awareness for Scottish Autism.

Ava’s brother, Liam, four, has autism and is non-verbal, and Ava is hoping to raise awareness and understanding of the disability.

Proud gran Michelle Madden told the Advertiser that during the school holidays Ava, family and friends did a sponsored climb of The Steeple, a hill behind the village and raised £1,000 for Scottish Autism.

Michelle added: “The money will be used for vital services in our area.

"Ava had an amazing time putting her energy into fundraising for this event and will continue to raise awareness and funds for such a worth while charity.”

Speaking about the Glasgow pageant, Michelle said: “Ava did fantastically well on the day and showed no nerves. She loved every part of the day, with talent being her favourite part.

“I was with Ava every step of the way preparing for the pageant and getting her ready for each round on the day. Her family were in the audience cheering her on.

“The aim of the pageant is to inspire confidence and positivity in the lives of the participants.

"This has been such a positive experience for her that she wants to continue taking part in pageants.”
