Helensburgh's G84 Junior Netball Club were celebrating last week after being named as the Club of the Year at the Argyll and Bute Sport Awards.

The club were presented the award by Councillor Ellen Morton at one of their training sessions at Lomond School

The judges noted that they were particularly impressed by the progress at the club, which provides netball training and play for children aged 5 to 16.

They offer training and playing environments to suit all abilities and run both recreational and competitive teams.

The club has experienced considerable growth and membership is now over 100 young people from the Helensburgh and surrounding areas.

A club spokesperson said: “Many of the club members were at the presentation and there was a real buzz about the club which reflects the fun and inclusive environment that the coaches at G84 promote.

“One of the particular strengths of the club is that every single coach and volunteer is passionate about what they do and they are an inspiration to the children who attend the club.

“The success of the competitive teams has been inspirational however it is their passion, commitment and belief in each other that has really inspired the younger members of the club.”

G84’s competitive teams have gone from strength to strength in the recent seasons, the U15 team were the Scottish Champions and the Glasgow League winners in 2016/17.

A large number of players were selected to represent Argyll and Bute at the inter-district championships, which the district side subsequently won.

Three members of the club have also been selected for the national junior squad.

The Argyll and Bute Sports Awards are supported by both Argyll and Bute Council and LiveArgyll and are aimed at celebrating the dedication and commitment of coaches and volunteers and the success of both the clubs and the players.
